Winter Storm Alert: Environment Canada Issues Travel Advisory

The Environment Canada agency calls for dangerous winter driving through Windsor-Essex as it forecasts 5 centimeters of snow followed by freezing water drops

A major winter storm system moves toward southwestern Ontario which makes Environment Canada release travel warnings for the Windsor-Essex area. Weather officials predict snow will start falling on Saturday afternoon reaching up to 5 centimeters before late evening and could become extremely unsafe for everyone on the roads.

The weather system will change from snow to a combination of freezing drizzle and freezing rain beginning at midnight. This mixture of snow and freezing precipitation creates dangerous waves for everyone who needs to walk or drive in the area. The freezing drizzle will stay active during overnight hours until early Sunday morning making travel challenging especially during those early hours.

Weather authorities want drivers to take additional care while driving plus think about altering their journey plans. Travelers should slow their driving pace on icy patches and keep proper space between them and other drivers. Travellers will find very difficult driving conditions because snow builds up and freezes on roadways mainly where icing products are lacking. The public needs to stay updated about weather changes before deciding to go outside during this hazard.
