Dire Wolf: World’s First De-Extincted Animal, says Scientists!

The Colossal Biosciences, the only de-extinction company in the world has made something remarkable which we were witnessing only in the Hollywood movies like Jurassic Park. Yes, they have brought back an animal named Dire Wolf which was recorded to be an extinct species 12,500 years ago. They extracted the sample DNA from the fossils such as a 13,000 year old tooth & an old skull and using the gene editing techniques they recreated the specific genetic traits of the Dire Wolf. 

The given information of Colossal Bioscience states that, they have identified and modified fourteen specific genes and it resulted in three healthy pups who were named Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi. As the scientists and other activists raise questions & concerns about the potential behavior of these recreated dire wolves. Some biologists doubts that whether this dire wolves can be considered as a true recreations of the extinct species. But the company has informed that the pups are raised and closely monitored in a secured ecological preserve.

  • Biological Name: Dire Wolf – Aenocyon Dirus  
  • Time of Existence: Pleistocene Epoch.
  • Habitat: Temperate and tropical regions of the Americas. 
  • Extinct – 125,000 to 10,000 years ago

And the species was named in the year 1858 after its first specimen was found.
