UK’s net zero economy is booming, ensuring better jobs and energy security

The net zero industry is expanding three times faster than the entire UK economy, according to a recent analysis, ensuring better jobs and increasing energy security. This sector is also helping significantly cut climate-heating emissions.
The analysis – by the Confederation of British Industry – found that 22,000 net zero businesses employ almost a million people in full-time jobs. These businesses range from clean energy to green finance, according to media reports.
The analysis, commissioned by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, highlighted that economic progress and climate action go together. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband noted that net zero is important for a strong economy.
The UK economy has been criticized for being concentrated in London and the southeast of England. But the report found that the net zero economy is broadly distributed across the country. Net zero jobs are increasing by 20% in Scotland since 2022.
