UAE, Italy and Albania enhance cross-border green energy cooperation

Led by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama, the three countries are looking to enhance cross-border cooperation in green energy and energy infrastructure.

Their tripartite strategic partnership marks a significant step in the direction of enhancing energy security, promoting sustainable practices, and accelerating the adoption of clean energy in the Mediterranean region. Isn’t it amazing?

UAE at the forefront of global energy system transformation

The UAE has a notable focus on sustainability and climate action. The Gulf state hosted the COP28 Summit in 2023, luring thousands of participants from across the globe. On the first day itself, participants agreed to operationalise the landmark Loss and Damage Fund.

The recently inked partnership agreement outlines major areas of cooperation, including the deployment of clean energy projects in Albania. A significant portion of this green energy is going to be transmitted to Italy. It is a major step, right?

The partnership is leveraging the UAE’s expertise in clean energy, Italy’s sophisticated energy market and Albania’s abundant natural resources. Through this collaboration, the UAE is, once again, at the forefront of the global energy system transformation.

Increasing energy access and strengthening economy: Is it feasible?

Dr Sultan al-Jaber, UAE’s Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, highlighted that the partnership is essential for meeting the commitment to triple clean energy, enhance decarbonisation efforts, increase energy access and boost economic progress. Let us understand further.

Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Italy’s Minister of Environment and Energy Security, noted that the deal is going to further increase his country’s role as a clean energy hub in the Mediterranean. He noted the importance of green energy cooperation and global coordination.
