UAE dispatches urgent food supplies for Bolivia forest fire survivors
The UAE has dispatched urgent food supplies to Bolivia, in response to the urgent humanitarian needs caused by massive forest fires in the country. HE Celinda Sosa, Foreign Minister of Bolivia, expressed sincere appreciation to the Gulf state.
The relief aid supplied reflects the close UAE-Bolivia bilateral relations. Her Excellency Sosa participated in distributing aid among those impacted, stressing that “humanitarian aid has no limitations.” The initiative is expected to ease the scale of the crisis for those impacted.
The latest dispatch reflects the UAE’s steadfast approach since its establishment by the founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, to urgently respond to difficult humanitarian circumstances – besides highlighting the deep-rooted values of solidarity and cooperation.
Bolivia notes unprecedented damage this fire season
Forest fires in Bolivia have ravaged more than 10 million hectares this year, primarily in the tropical eastern regions, marking the country’s most serious fire season on record. The recent surge in fires has surpassed the previous serious fire seasons in 2010 and 2019.
The devastation noted this year in Bolivia is comparable in size to Iceland or Cuba. Tierra Foundation has released fresh data that stress that the burned area is equivalent to nearly 19 million football fields in the US.
The human activities-led climate change has also exacerbated the intensity of fire seasons in different countries across the globe. It is the need of the hour to reduce climate emissions and limit global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
