UAE deepens focus on sustainability as clean energy investments exceed Dh45 billion
Suhail al-Mazrouei, Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE, recently highlighted that the country has significantly increased the contribution of clean energy production to the total energy mix, reaching 27.83% last year. The target is to meet 32% by 2030.
From 2019 to 2022, the UAE has succeeded in doubling its clean energy capacity as part of the UAE Energy Strategy to triple the installed capacity by the end of the decade, the Minister informed the media on September 15.
The UAE is strongly committed to achieving the energy transition targets as part of the UAE Consensus at COP28. The Gulf state organised last year’s climate summit in Dubai, convening thousands of participants and facilitating significant progress in sustainability initiatives.
Major advancements made by UAE Energy Strategy 2050
Suhail al-Mazrouei underscored the UAE’s notable focus on fostering investment in clean energy. He noted that the country achieved remarkable progress last year of 70% in installed clean energy capacity, according to media reports.
The Minister also elaborated on the advancements made by the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, emphasising several key projects. The hydroelectric plant in Hatta, Sharjah and the recently commissioned fourth reactor at the Barakah plant are set to make great contributions.
He also stressed that the World Utilities Conference 2024, starting today in the UAE capital, is a major event for sharing expertise and insights. The conference is aimed at highlighting cutting-edge technologies to tackle different sustainability challenges.
UAE deepening focus on climate action
Speaking to the media, Suhail al-Mazrouei noted that the UAE Cabinet has approved a policy to regulate the energy services market. This policy seeks to streamline interactions among energy service companies, government entities and the private sector.
Last year, the Cabinet approved a policy to regulate the UAE’s energy services market in order to enhance the partnership among energy services firms, government entities and the private sector, the Minister further mentioned.
It is no unpopular fact that the UAE has a deepening focus on climate action. The UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative isn’t just a national drive to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 but an invitation to the global community to collaborate in developing practical solutions.
