UAE and US addressing climate vulnerabilities of global food systems together
Protected by years of UAE-US bilateral cooperation to tackle climate challenges together, the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate) is putting substantial efforts into enabling solutions at the intersection of agriculture and climate.
AIM for Climate officially launched at the 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) in the UK under the co-leadership of the UAE and US. The initiative expanded at COP28 Dubai and currently includes 600+ partners and $17 billion in investments for sustainable agriculture.
AIM for Climate for sustainable food systems
The increasing global population is becoming more and more dependent on vulnerable food production as the effects of the climate crisis conveniently undermine longstanding agricultural practices and impact farmers in different countries.
This sector requires improved technologies and innovative approaches to address climate change and, simultaneously, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support agricultural production and employment opportunities.
Led by the UAE and US, AIM for Climate seeks to increase investments in innovation for agriculture and food systems, and enable greater coordination among participants on agricultural research, development and deployment of solutions.
The initiative-related announcements at COP28 in November more than doubled investments in sustainable agriculture to $17 billion. This is helping enhance existing approaches and deliver better methods to sustainably increase agricultural productivity and improve livelihoods.
Strong Partners: Deepening UAE-US bilateral relations
AIM for Climate highlights the deepening UAE-US bilateral relations. Both countries are close friends and strong allies. They have shared interests and common values, striving to promote regional security, create economic prosperity and address pressing global challenges.
The improving connection is solidified by frequent high-profile trips. In a recent development, UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed travelled to the US. He engaged in meticulous discussions with his US counterpart Joe Biden, industry leaders and several others.
