Sustainability is key to a better future: UAE celebrates Emirati Women’s Day
UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed took to X on Emirati Women’s Day to highlight: “The UAE’s journey of development would not have been possible without the tireless dedication of determined and inspirational women.”
HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, established the annual celebration in 2015 to honour the women of the UAE for their significant role in shaping the country’s ongoing progress. Today, she also offered her thanks to the Emirati female community.
Extending her heartfelt gratitude to the women, Her Highness hailed the population’s exceptional accomplishments across different fields. She spoke about the immensely important role women play in regard to the We The UAE 2031 strategy for future development.
UAE ranks first in 33 indicators related to women’s issues
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also offered his wishes on the annual celebration. “She has our utmost appreciation and gratitude, not just on one day of the year, but every day and throughout the years.”
The UAE ranks first globally in 33 indicators related to women’s issues, including protection of their employment and personal rights, social security and their enrolment in secondary and higher education, according to The National.
In terms of sustainability initiatives, the UAE is a real trailblazer. The nation’s visionary leadership announced a “Year of Sustainability” in 2023 and has extended the initiative till the end of 2024 too, highlighting their considerable focus on the environment.
UAE playing an effective role in climate control issues
The UAE announced an ambitious Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative at Expo 2020 Dubai. It is a national drive to ensure net zero carbon emissions by 2050, making the Gulf state the first Mena country to do so.
Emirati women leading the sustainability scene in UAE
HE Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri is the UAE minister of state for advanced technology. She spearheads a considerable portion of the country’s efforts to boost the adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and promote further development in the sector.
Through its efforts, the Emirates seeks to play an effective role in climate control issues. The nation hosted the annual COP28 Summit in Dubai last year, facilitating the operationalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund and arriving at a consensus to gradually reduce usage of fossil fuels.
HE Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri is the minister of climate change and environment of the UAE. She leads the Gulf state’s comprehensive efforts to accelerate global climate action, enhance biodiversity, protect ecosystems and strengthen food security.
Her Excellency holds a considerable amount of experience in the sector. She also lends her significant expertise and leadership to a number of national and international organisations. She seeks the implementation of impactful strategies, policies and initiatives.
