South Korea’s Wildfire Emergency Deepens, 3 More Areas Declared ‘Special Disaster Zones’

Deadly wildfires are continuing to rage across South Korea and at the same time, authorities have announced extra 3 ‘Special disaster zones’. At least four people are dead and hundreds have been evacuated from their homes since the fires broke out on Saturday driven by high winds and dry conditions.
Sancheong County had already been specified as a special disaster area so that it could obtain extra government assistance. On Monday, Acting President Han Duck-soo designated three additional counties, one located in South Gyeongsang Province and the other two located in Ulsan and North Gyeongsang Province to receive special disaster assistance. Han visited Uiseong County and spoke with displaced residents and promised expedited disaster recovery efforts.
Authorities are prioritizing relief efforts as the fires continue to spread, threatening more communities.
