South Asia’s Agriculture faces crisis due to climatic pressure: Says Report

The recent study underpins the impact of climate change specifically in the regions of South Asia where agriculture is the major sector.

A detailed research and report which was submitted under the topic “Climate Change and South Asian Agriculture: New Strategies for Resilience” has been co-authored by a specialist in environmental studies and sustainable development, Dr.Anjali R.Kapoor. This report focuses on unfurling the crisis which must be taken care of more profoundly by the global nations in a better way than a shallow approach. Because these shifting climate patterns are undermining the productivity of agriculture in the regions of South Asia. Some of the critical issues like rising temperature, irregular monsoon, soil degradation and water scarcity diminish the capacity of the land and majorly affect the agrarian system.

Also, the study tries to enforce the importance of strengthening the regional productivity in rural areas that are most vulnerable to climate shocks. Community driven adaptations, diversified cropping, improved water conservation methods, technologies that are climate smart are some of the significant moves which can be carried out across the regions to foster the self-reliant farming system amidst this climate pressure.

The report of these experts are like a wake up call, alerting all those policy makers and communities where agriculture and its product plays a pivotal role both for their economy and their basic needs. More than campaigns and debates, an effective actions that are practised regularly can combat the growing threats posed by climatic pressure.
