Forbes Middle East has released its second annual list of sustainability leaders in the region. In total, 107 leaders across 12 different sectors and 105 companies have been recognised for their contributions to making the planet a better place to live in.
The list recognises the trailblazers and visionaries driving notable sustainable initiatives and innovations in the region. The rankings are based on an elaborate and meticulous assessment of each company’s sustainability efforts.
Surging financial investments in sustainability initiatives
Forbes Middle East compared sustainability initiatives in each of the 12 corporate sectors, factoring in ESG reporting, greenhouse gas emissions, energy usage, refuge management and the adoption of clean energy and energy-efficient technologies.
Prominent for its contributions, the Uae conveniently topped the list of sustainability leaders in the Middle East. The Emirates had 54 entries, and Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar and Bahrain came next at 20, 10, 8 and 5 entries, respectively.
Financial investments in sustainability initiatives have surged across organisations in the Middle East, reflecting a deepening focus on environmentally responsible practices. Sustainability commitments are in the limelight across organisations in the region.
Emirates NBD has facilitated over $20.4 billion in green, social and sustainability-linked transactions since 2021. In addition, in March 2024, Uae clean energy company Masdar acquired a 50% stake in US-based Terra-Gen.
Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Summit
The second edition of the Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Summit is scheduled to take place in the Uae from October 17 to 18. It centres on the objective to shape a better future for all. The event seeks to push for sustainable development and climate resilience.
The Uae’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, HE Thani al-Zeyoudi, is going to chair the Summit. The 2-day event serves as a collaborative platform for both private and public sector entities across the Middle East to develop and adopt green and sustainable practices.
