Back in 1998, just months after the release of Titanic, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation came into existence. In 2010, the entity donated $1 million to a Nepalese project to protect tigers. The LDF has also supported efforts to conserve the black rhinos in Tanzania, among other things.
The actor attended the 2016 climate summit in Paris. This conference is immensely important as it resulted in the establishment of the Paris climate accords. This landmark document seeks to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius beyond pre-industrial numbers.
DiCaprio has also been meticulously using public speeches and social media to amplify the message of climate action. He is one of the most celebrated actors globally and people tend to listen to him – something that is really important to get the message across the table.
