Leaders in the Pacific aren’t happy about Donald Trump’s decision on climate change

Leaders in the Pacific are raising serious concerns about US President Donald Trump’s decision to abandon the 2015 Paris agreement and freeze foreign aid, stressing that these changes are going to accelerate the threats they face as countries on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

Trump has described the Paris deal as “unfair”. The agreement seeks to bring the brutal climate emergency under control. It is the global community’s main effort to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius beyond pre-industrial figures.

Donald Trump’s order to freeze foreign aid to numerous countries has deepened concerns that the Pacific region is going to suffer further as crucial assistance for climate adaptation and disaster management is cut or is under threat.
