Jin military discharge: K-pop sensation BTS inspires action against climate change
BTS’ eldest member Kim Seok-jin has been discharged from the military. The singer enlisted in December 2022 and recently concluded his compulsory military training. His discharge ceremony today turned into an emotional event not just for fans but for Jin, too.
In videos going viral on social media, BTS leader and rapper RM can be seen presenting Jin a bouquet and performing their Grammy-nominated song ‘Dynamite’ on the saxophone. Jin completed his training just in time for BTS anniversary on June 13.
Jin is expected to celebrate the big day with his fans, collectively called ARMY. The other members of the boy band had applied for a day off today to reunite at Jin’s discharge ceremony. BTS’ agency BigHit Music had requested fans not to gather outside the camp.
BTS taking action on pressing global challenges
K-pop sensation BTS or Bangtan Boys are prominent for their dominance over the global music industry. Made up of seven members – Jin, RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook – the group debuted on June 13, 2013. Their journey to the top has been incredibly inspiring.
Despite their global success, BTS members never let stardom get to their heads. From donating to charity to championing social causes, each member of the boy band has taken it upon themselves to make the world a better place to live in.
In their prominent fight against racism, BTS made a donation of $1 million to Black Lives Matter in June 2020 to support racial justice initiatives. In just 25 hours of their donation, BTS fans joined together to match the group’s donation, giving another $1 million.
BTS stress climate action at UN general assembly
BTS also cares about the environment and climate change’s impact on human lives. In 2019, the boys became global ambassadors of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, the street racing series that uses electric cars to highlight air pollution and the future of clean energy.
In September 2021, Bangtan Boys attended the UN General Assembly as they embarked on their roles as South Korea’s presidential special envoys by former President Moon Jae-in. The septet addressed the UN and delivered impactful speeches of hope for a brighter future.
BTS spoke about the need for climate action. RM said: “While we were preparing to come here today, we learned that there are many young people who are taking an interest in environmental issues and that there are many students who have taken this on as their field of study.”
