US Aid Freeze Leaves Malawi Vulnerable to Climate Change

The US government has stopped funding a project in Malawi. This project was helping the villagers to fight climate change. The project taught the people of Malawi how to make cleaner cookstoves, produce honey, grow mangoes, and plant trees. These skills helped them earn extra money and protect their forests.

The project was known as the Modern Cooking for Healthy Forests Accelerator. It was funded by USAID and co-funded by the UK. The project was operated in the Salima district in Malawi.

As most Malawian households rely on wood or charcoal for cooking and heating, so this project was reducing the use of woodfires.
