Gujarat Titans continue key environmental sustainability initiatives during IPL 2024
Gujarat Titans (GT) are a professional franchise cricket team based in Gujarat, India. They compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and are scheduled to clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) today at 7:30 pm IST at Narendra Modi Stadium as part of the ongoing tournament.
But the Titans are not just popular for their gaming performances. They also have a substantial focus on environmental initiatives to make the planet a better place to live in. The team is part of multiple projects to protect the environment and create a circular waste economy.
Gujarat Titans and Nepra Resource Management Private Limited (NEPRA) have been operating together during IPL matches at the home stadium to divert refuge from landfills. The duo has been able to deliver impressive results so far, making headlines across the country.
Helping fans learn value of segregation and recycling
During the first five home matches of IPL 2024, Gujarat Titans and NEPRA successfully diverted a staggering 75,557 kg of refuge from landfills, including 6,400 kg of wet refuge and 69,157 kg of dry refuge, through segregation and recycling efforts.
Bharuch Enviro Infrastructure Limited composted and transformed the wet refuge into valuable organic fertilizer. Nepra’s material recovery facility efficiently segregated the dry refuge into recyclable materials, such as mixed paper and mixed plastic, and non-recyclable material.
Gujarat Titans have done a great job at engaging fans for a greener future. Stadium awareness campaigns engaged fans through pre-game announcements, interactive activities, visual displays and promotional materials, reported SME Street.
Gujarat Titans committed to exploring innovative solutions
Such methods help inform and educate fans about the importance of sustainable practices, like segregation and disposal, to save the environment and ensure a greener planet. Sustainability initiatives are the need of the hour as the brutal climate crisis rages on.
Expressing pride in the initiatives that have led to significant progress in minimising negative environmental impact during 2024 IPL season, Colonel Arvinder Singh, COO of Gujarat Titans, commended the partnership involving NEPRA and the enthusiastic participation of fans.
“The efforts this year have built upon our efforts in diverting 98% of refuge from landfills during IPL 2023. Gujarat Titans remain committed to exploring innovative solutions for sports to contribute to a greener Earth,” he further mentioned.
