GoFundMe: This fundraising platform has already raised $250 million for California fires

Just more than a month since deadly fires broke out across southern California, GoFundMe has reached more than $250 million for people affected by the disaster. This is more than the amount raised on the platform for all other natural disasters across the globe last year.

To date, more than a million donors in all 50 states and 160 countries have donated millions to support the people of California, about $20 million more than the popular fundraising platform collected after all other disasters last year, including Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.

The federal authorities and private insurance companies are still supporting the majority of rebuilding expenses in California. But the significance of GoFundMe and similar private fundraisers has substantially increased as climate change raises more concerns.

Though it is going to take months – if not years – to rebuild parts of California destroyed by the recent fires, the support people are getting on GoFundMe has been life altering. Do you think climate change is becoming a bigger crisis day by day?
