Extreme cold conditions force school closures across Northeast Ohio

Just after 5 am today, Cleveland in Ohio recorded minus 5 degrees. The conditions felt like minus 18. It had been expected to get colder before getting better later in the morning. These potentially dangerous conditions have forced school closures in Ohio.

Most school districts in the region, including Cleveland Metropolitan School District, cancelled classes for the day. Kent State University is not having in-person morning classes and Cuyahoga Community College is closed.

Nonetheless, school districts are not the only institutions affected. Cleveland City Hall has been shut for today and trash pickup is being delayed by one day. Some municipal courts, such as Elyria and Garfield Heights, are not opening today.
