The Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation (APAN) Forum is a biennial event that brings together adaptation practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific region to share knowledge and experiences and to develop new partnerships and initiatives. The Forum is hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN).
The 8th APAN Forum will focus on the theme of “Building Climate Resilience for a Sustainable Asia-Pacific.” The Forum will explore a wide range of topics related to climate change adaptation, including:
- Integrating adaptation into development planning
- Building climate-resilient infrastructure
- Managing water resources under climate change
- Adapting to sea level rise
- Protecting ecosystems
- Building community resilience
Theme
Resilience for All: Enabling transformative implementation
Resilience has been the overarching theme of the APAN Forums for the past 20 years. At the global and regional levels, there have been significant efforts over the past few years to generate knowledge and information about climate change adaptation. The world is currently experiencing a climate emergency as we are still far behind schedule in meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. Agriculture, ecosystems, human health, urban areas, and infrastructure are just a few of the sectors where the current effects of climate change are clear and disruptive.
Therefore, the theme for this year emphasizes how urgent adaptation action is needed to increase resilience and give communities the tools they need to withstand and mitigate the worst possible climate scenarios. Additionally, it is consistent with the main conclusions of COP 27, highlighting the significance of a transformative strategy for enhancing and speeding up adaptation efforts.
Target Participants
In order to create and strengthen partnerships across sectors for adaptation action, representatives from governments, financing institutions, academia, research, international organizations, UN agencies, civil society organizations, youth organizations, and the private sector, among others, will take part in the 8th APAN Forum.
