Donald Trump stresses ‘drill, baby, drill’ despite rally attendees requiring hospitalisation due to heat

The upcoming US presidential election is bound to stay in the limelight. Things have taken a thought-provoking turn lately as former President Donald Trump has been convicted on all 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a sex scandal.

Trump has become the first former leader ever convicted of a crime. Besides the hush money case, the businessman-turned-politician also faces 13 felony counts in Georgia, 40 counts in Florida and 4 in the capital over different alleged crimes.

The 2024 presidential election candidate has promised to accelerate oil and gas production, repeating the mantra “drill, baby, drill” at rallies. He aims to undo incumbent President Joe Biden’s policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions for the sake of the planet.

Supporters at Trump rally require help due to heat

Donald Trump has directly sought $1 billion in campaign donations from oil and gas executives in order to fulfill the aforementioned agenda concerning fossil fuels as president. But his promises have triggered controversies on social media as the climate crisis deepens.

A total of 24 people at a Trump rally in Las Vegas on Sunday required medical help due to extreme heat, as per the Clark county fire department. 6 of them have to be taken to the hospital for treatment. 11 others needed help at an earlier rally in Phoenix on Thursday.

Trump himself noted the severe heat during his speech on Sunday. The Las Vegas rally started around noon as the temperature reached about 32 degrees Celsius and climbed to approximately 38 degrees. Supporters had to attend the rally in a park with little shade.

Official start of Summer in US still days away

Record-breaking heat enveloped major portions of the US in recent days. Temperatures easily climbed beyond 43 degrees Celsius in areas stretching from California to Arizona. Roughly half of Arizona and Nevada suffered under an extreme heat alert.

The official start of Summer is still days away. But temperatures in Las Vegas and Phoenix hit 43 degrees and 45 degrees, respectively, on Friday. Donald Trump attended the Sunday rally in a suit jacket and signature red baseball cap, noting: “It’s 110, but it doesn’t feel it to me.”

He then said: “I don’t care about you. I just want your vote. I don’t care,” reported the Guardian. But the candidate later said he was joking about not caring about his own voters and complained the media was going to criticise him for this.
