Donald Trump signs order for US to abandon Paris agreement for second time
President Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order (EO) for the US to leave the Paris agreement for a second time. This climate agreement is aimed at limiting global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
Trump has signed a formal letter to the UN, notifying the global body of the US’s intention to leave the landmark Paris deal – seeking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to bring the brutal climate change under control.
In addition to abandoning the climate agreement, Donald Trump also signed many more orders on his first day itself, including imposing a hiring freeze for federal employees, except in certain areas such as immigration enforcement and national security.
The US President has also delayed a TikTok ban and declared a national emergency at the US-Mexico border. He has also suspended refugee resettlement for half a year and signed an order to end automatic birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants.
