Dallas Weather: Cold Front Brings Cooler Temps, Rain Chances in North Texas This Weekend

Introduction

A notable change in weather will take place throughout North Texas as a current cold front moves into the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) region starting late Thursday evening and extending through the weekend. For those of you who have had 5 days of unusually warm temperatures, expect a slight drop in temperature, some windy conditions, and slight rain chances over the next few days.

Cold Front Brings Sudden Cooldown

North Texas experienced a cold front moving through the area today (Friday). The area is expected to continue to experience windy conditions through the weekend with gusty winds of up to 35 miles per hour, making it feel much cooler than the actual temperatures.

Cooler Weekend Temperatures

Saturday should feel much cooler than many people have been used to experiencing in the past couple of weeks. High temperatures on Saturday should only be in the low to mid 60s, and clouds will continue across the area.

Rain Chances Remain Light

The area does have slight rain chances expected over the next few days; however, rain chances will be limited. The forecast will continue to show rain chances in the area of:

  • Approximately 20% to 40% chance of light rain on Saturday
  • Approximately 30% chance of rain will continue (evening to night) on Friday.

Quick Warm-Up by Sunday

It won’t be long until the cooler temperatures are gone. By Sunday, warmer air will return as the winds shift back to a warmer direction. Temperatures are expected to get back into the lower 80s with more sunshine. This rapid rebound in temperatures is typical for North Texas as weather patterns can change dramatically, often overnight, following the passing of a cold front.

What’s Ahead Next Week

As we move past this weekend, temperatures are expected to rise again, possibly into the 90’s by Monday or Tuesday. In addition to the warmer and more humid conditions due to the return of the winds from the south, our weather pattern will change as a new front will be moving towards Texas and bring an increased likelihood for rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday or Thursday.

Additional Advisory: High Pollen Levels

With the changing weather, tree pollen levels are also extremely high throughout North Texas. To protect themselves, residents should:

  • Keep all windows closed.
  • Limit any outdoor activity until after 10am daily.
  • Take showers after playing or working in the yard.

Bottom Line

This week we will see another instance of typical Texas weather swings; we are currently in the middle of a quick cool down with low chances of rain, followed by a rapid recovery of temperatures back to warm. The brief cooling relief we experienced from the recent cold front will most likely be a thing of the past by the end of this week, and it appears we will warm back up quickly.
