The climate crisis is increasingly a root cause and multiplier of humanitarian emergencies across the globe. Extreme natural disasters such as droughts, floods and cyclones are intensifying – leading to food insecurity, displacement and health emergencies.

In 2025, millions of people are caught in climate change-caused humanitarian crises that significantly threaten life and property. Climate change is considered one of the most brutal dangers humans have ever been asked to fight against.

Countries most affected by climate emergencies in 2025

1. Sudan

Besides internal fighting involving the army and paramilitary forces, Sudan is also facing recurrent droughts and flooding. These climate disasters are damaging agriculture and infrastructure. More than 14 million people are displaced or food insecure.

2. Mozambique

Cyclones and flooding have caused a lot of damage in Mozambique. Millions of people in the country are displaced and the need for basic essentials like food, clothing and shelter is really prominent in Mozambique.

3. Haiti

Haiti is not just facing brutal armed conflicts, that continue to displace and kill many people. This country has also been subjected to hurricanes and flooding in the past, leading to a humanitarian catastrophe. It is time to pay more attention to Haiti.

4. Niger

Desertification and drought have undermined the livelihoods of millions of people in Niger. Tens of thousands of people are facing hunger and displacement in the Sahel region, leading to brutal levels of humanitarian troubles in the country.
