COP29 Baku: UAE-US climate-friendly farming effort reaches $29 billion

The UN has highlighted that food systems across the globe account for about a third of human-made greenhouse gas emissions. This includes emissions related to producing crops and livestock, farming and land use, and energy used in processing and transportation.

The AIM for Climate initiative is scheduled to end in 2025. Nearly 130 projects have been announced in an effort to support small farmers, reduce methane emissions, and bring progress in research and technological innovation in farming.

The programme had secured $8 billion in funding at the COP27 Summit in Egypt and $17 billion at COP28 Dubai. Led by the UAE and US, it seeks to help improve existing approaches and deliver better methods to sustainably increase agricultural productivity.
