COP29 Baku: Campaigner Greta Thunberg demands more climate finance

The COP29 Summit in Baku is coming to an end. This year’s UN climate conference had a significant focus on climate finance. But did it yield satisfactory results? Rich countries at the Summit have agreed to raise their offer to $300 billion per year by 2035.

The shift in position comes after developing countries described a previous annual climate finance proposal of $250 billion as less. The European Union, the US and the UK have apparently agreed to accept the higher number.

Greta Thunberg on COP29 Summit negotiations

The COP29 Summit comes against a backdrop of increasing oppression, inequalities, conflicts and genocides across the globe. Climate activist Greta Thunberg recently released a long post on the climate finance negotiations happening at the Summit.

She said: “It should not come as a surprise that yet another COP is failing. The current draft is a complete disaster … It becomes clear that it is up to us as a global collective to take the action.” The campaigner is prominent for her climate protests in different countries.
