Climate crisis causing an insurance crisis in the US
People across the US are facing an enormous financial crisis because of climate change. Many of them are struggling to find insurance or dropping premiums that are rising fast due to a mounting toll of hurricanes, fires, floods and other natural disasters.
The US Treasury Department has released detailed numbers about the issue. Insurance premiums are rising across the country. But people in regions most prone to climate disasters are experiencing the steepest rises of all.
The brutal climate crisis is also making it incredibly harder for insurance companies to operate. Many of these entities are choosing to pause or completely leave disaster-prone areas in the United States, such as Florida and California.
