Residents of Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan have been receiving Climate Action Incentive Payments from the federal government for a year now. CAIP is made tax-free to assist individuals in covering the costs concerning federal pollution pricing.
The four equal quarterly payments are scheduled for January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15, 2024. Interestingly, the program is now set to also include citizens of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador (starting of July 1, 2023).
Small and rural community residents are entitled to an additional 10% on top of the basic sum in the CAIP programme. This provision has been included to address the distinct challenges individuals in these areas face, acknowledging the differential impact of environmental policies.
Changes To Climate Action Incentive Payment 2024
Climate Action Incentive Payments are also referred to as carbon tax rebates. The next payment release date is on January 15, 2024. The federal government is known to determine individuals’ CAIP eligibility on the basis of their personal tax filing.
In terms of the expected changes in CAI Payment in 2024, citizens of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador are set to get three quarterly payments in January, July and October, followed by the regular four payments.
In the same way, citizens of New Brunswick can expect a normal payment in January and a double payment that includes the quarterly figures for July and October. It is recommended to visit the Canadian government’s official website for more detailed information.
Climate Action Incentive Payment: Eligibility Criteria
In order to receive the CAI Payment, one must reside in the aforementioned provinces, be 19 years of age or older, have a valid social insurance number, and must have filed taxes for the previous year. The amount depends on the number of family members.
A family of four can anticipate receiving the following sums in their spring CAIP.
CAD 244 in Ontario
CAD 264 in Manitoba
CAD 340 in Saskatchewan
CAD 386 in Alberta
Subsequently, a family of four will be eligible to receive a yearly 2023-24 total of:
CAD 976 in Ontario
CAD 1,056 in Manitoba
CAD 1,360 in Saskatchewan
